Answers

Q. How is the vegetation mulched?

A. A specialized forestry mulcher is used, the mulcher rotates with tungsten cutting teeth at high revolutions and as contact with vegetation is made it is processed into mulch just like conventional garden mulch.

Q. Do the tree’s have to be cut down first?

A. No, the mulching unit has a push bar that pushes tree’s forward on a slight angle, the cutting teeth then come in contact with the tree cutting it off at ground level causing it to fall forward, once on the ground it is then mulched by the unit.

Q. What about the tree stumps?

A. The mulching unit can grind stumps down to ground level if required, in most applications the stumps are left in the ground, if required they can be treated, alternatively stumps can be removed by excavator if necessary.

Q. How large can the trees to be processed be?

A. This varies according to type of trees, some species are processed more quickly than others, generally trees up to 150 mm in diameter are all processed, we describe suitable tree’s as small to medium. Larger trees can be processed depending on species and time required to mulch.

Q. Does every thing have to be cleared or can I save particular trees or plants?

A. As the name implies precision mulching allows selective clearing of vegetation, owners can easily mark desired vegetation for safe keeping.

Q. What about long grass and weeds?

A. The mulching unit processes grass and weeds etc successfully as a conventional slasher would.

Q. What about invasive weeds such as lantana?

A. The machine is ideally suited to this and has allowed many property owners to regain control of their land, once mulched the area can be treated with a suitable herbicide. We have cleared lantana and guava that stood over four metres high with no problems.

Q. What about sloping ground and hills?

A. The track system on the bobcat allows it to travel up relatively steep inclines while still operating as the rubber tracks provide excellent traction.

Q. What if the area is very wet, during the wet season for example ?

A. The Machine runs on a rubber track system which gives it a considerable advantage over conventional bobcats with tyre’s, the track system allows the machine to operate in soft boggy ground and to continue up and down inclines, due to the low ground pressure there is minimal damage to the surface.
We assess each project prior to clearing and will advise if it is too wet at that time and will reschedule as required, the wet season can present challenges to us all.

Q. How big is the machine?

A. The machine is basically a powerful specialized bobcat not much larger than a conventional bobcat, as such it can work in confined area’s. The mulching unit is 1.8 Mts wide.

Q. How expensive is it?

A. Precision Mulching is very cost effective compared to conventional clearing as it is all completed in a single operation, there are no expensive additional fees to transport cleared vegetation to dumping sites where additional fees for dumping are then charged.
The rate at which the machine clears varies according to nature of vegetation and terrain, an acre block with average growth for example would be cleared in a matter of hours.
Contact Precision Mulching via phone or our email link for current rates, we are happy to visit your property and provide free quotations.

Q. Do I need permission to clear my land ?

A. The responsibility lies with the property owner to obtain permission to clear vegetation, the process of Precision Mulching is looked upon favorably by councils in our experience due to it being relatively low impact when compared to conventional clearing techniques. Burning piles of cleared vegetation presents problems with permits, safety and pollution and in a tropical environment it can take quite a while for vegetation to dry sufficiently to burn.
In many cases our customers are clearing their property to comply with council requirements, council has the power to appoint contractors to clear unsightly property in many area’s with all associated costs directed to the property owners.

We advise all customers to contact their local council in regards to regulations relevant to clearing vegetation.
